What is the educational diagnosis


A diagnosis is the systematic action of description and analysis of existing reality. It's like taking X-rays to examine where and how it is at any given time, identifying problems and achievements. Is an essential step as the foundation for consistent development of the various components of the EIP.
Tools for the development of educational diagnosis• QuestionnairesHave well-structured questions that people-or groups. The questions may have a defined scale or alternative response or allow the person to write your reply. It has the advantage that a guest can leave the person to answer it in a certain time and then collect information processing.


• SurveysQuestionnaires are well, but have the peculiarity that orally applied by anyone doing research. It also offers many facilities for data processing, as the answers given to questions well structured.


• ChecklistsThey are guides observation or verification of the appearance or absence of a fact. There is a list of observable data and then recorded on the List if the data is displayed or not.


Techniques for developing the educational diagnosisApplication• Structured or semi-structured interviewsWhen we need to get the information directly, face to face. Individual applies through questions and set (structured) or which may change, depending on the direction that the conversation (semi-structured). The information can be recorded through the recording of the interview, permission of the interviewee, or notes of words or phrases during and at the end of the conversation.



• Focus GroupApplies when we want to obtain information from various points of view, from the discussion on the subject investigated. Prepare guiding questions to generate discussion and directed into content we can provide the required information. It applies to small groups of 7 to 12 people or so.


• SWOTIs a matrix that serves to identify strengths and weaknesses (internal analysis), as well as opportunities and threats (external analysis) for our center. It can be done with larger groups.
• Documentary researchIs valuable when we need specific data, for example, by requiring statistical information as the percentage of students in a course approved in 1999. Provides access to records very objective about the institution.
• ObservationIs a technique of "inspection" directly into the environment in which a fact is presented using a guide to the East. Used to verify data obtained by other techniques and instruments.


The techniques and tools can be used to collect information in four areas (educational, administrative, organizational and community). Moreover, the diagnosis can be performed as a self-diagnosis, with the participation of all sectors of the community or institutional assessment, developed by outside consultants
